PSN - Product Support Notification
Low/NotificationCan happen at the time of insertion
Low/NotificationCan result in boot up failure, not a run time issue.

Product Affected

RE-S-X6-64G, RE-S-X6-128G, SRX5K-RE3-128G, and EX9200-RE2

Alert Description

There have been a considerable number of cases reported that RE-S-X6-64G-*, and RE-S-X6-128G-* routing engine (RE) fail to boot fully because of the physical damage made at the time of insertion. The damage in such cases are found at the sides of an RE, that are confirmed to be due to the installation procedure that is not fully followed; One side of edge of the RE is not fully aligned with a guide rail in the SCB slot, yet is pushed in to be inserted, resulting in the damage on the components on the side edges. Such a damaged RE may show the following symptom:
  • RE will not boot up.
  • MGD may crash and there may be no CLI prompt.
  • RE will boot up but hardware details may be missing under " show chassis hardware " and the RE may not take up the primary role.
These error messages may be seen in the console logs in some situations:

AER: PCI device with vendor id 12d8 and device id e110 is not found in the system
AER: PCI device with vendor id 1304 and device id 65 is not found in the system
AER: PCI device with vendor id 14e4 and device id b680 is not found in the system

ERROR: routing engine slot identification failed
ERROR: ACB FPGA not configured

AER: PCI device of CB FPGA not found

Solution

When an RE is inserted into the SCB, both sides of the RE are supposed to be placed inside the card guide rails before the RE is being pushed into the slot. If one side of the RE is not aligned and is outside the card guide rail, physical damage can be made at the bottom part of the RE where electrical components reside. Please follow the installation guide precisely.
