, certain platforms are not required to perform i40e-NVM upgrade in order to deploy JUNOS vmhost image based on Linux WRL9 or later. However, when user tries to upgrade those platforms without i40e-NVM upgrade, the following error might be seen:

To overcome the above issue user could upgrade the platform using one of the following upgrade method.
With CLI command to perform upgrade, before upgrading the JUNOS version to post 19.2 release, upgrade the platform with any 19.2 release image as an intermediate step. After the upgrade to JUNOS version 19.2 release is completed, user could perform another upgrade to the targeted JUNOS release.
Perform USB drive installation of JUNOS with the targeted release.
Solution
CLI command upgrade to post 19.2 release requires 2 steps upgrade which could require longer maintenance window to complete the upgrade process.
