Alert Description

The following changes will be made to the JUNOS Software download page as of February 1st, 2017:

  1. Simplified the JUNOS software download page by removing the "JUNOS Image Type" dropdown menu and instead placing the software type in front of the image names
  2. Posting a new type of JUNOS Software maintenance release called "JUNOS Service Release" or "JUNOS SR"

Solution

Removing the "JUNOS Image Type" dropdown menu

These are the changes which will be implemented on the JUNOS software download page:
1. Removing the JUNOS software type from the software download page. Only JUNOS software version remains
2. Changing the names of the image links by prefixing them with JUNOS image types as follow:

Releasing of "JUNOS Service Release" or "JUNOS SR" to software download page

JUNOS Service Release software - "JUNOS SR"  or "SR" - is a type of maintenance release issued between software maintenance releases - e.g. 15.1R2, 15.1R3. Since an interval between software maintenance releases can be 10 weeks or longer, a SR is used to provide critical fixes during the period. Starting in February 2017, Juniper Networks is posting JUNOS SR on JUNOS Software download page.

The following will be implement on JUNOS software download page in February 2017

The following screenshot displays the current software download page for PTX5000 series router. In order to download a software image, you need to do the following: a) select Junos software image type, b) select desired software version, c) click on a link to an image to download

The new software download page contains the following changes:
1. JUNOS image type dropdown menu has changed to have the following contents (see figure 2)
1. "Junos" and "Junos Service Release" dropdown menu. Selecting "Junos" will bring you to Junos maintenance releases while "Junos Service Release" brings you to the "Service Releases" download page
2. Software version selection dropdown menu remains
2. Image names has been prefixed with new keywords (see figure 3)
As an example, the Figure 3 displays a portion of the new software download page
1. The first line "64 Bit - M-series ..." - this is a JUNOS US/Canada image type which contains data and control plane encryption
2. The second line "Worldwide - 64-Bit - M-Series ..." - this is a JUNOS Worldwide image type which does not contain encryption
3. The last line is "Limited - VMHost PTX Installer" - this is a JUNOS Limited image type which contains control plane encryption but not data plane encryption (see TSB16869 [juniper.net] )
