The customer replaced the defective MPC5E card due to Major ASIC Errors, however, the FPC was Offline due to "---No power---".
JTAC reviewed the system’s power allocation and found that only 470W remained in Zone 0 and 445W in Zone 1—insufficient to power up the MPC5E, which requires 511W at 25°C.
Although the system is equipped with four high-capacity 4.1kW power supplies, only one AC power feed is connected to the PEMs. As a result, the total available system power is limited to 3400W, which is the root cause of the customer's issue.
Based on their own research and judgment, the customer attempted to recover the system by performing a reboot. While this action was fortunately successful, it is important to note that the ability of all components to power up during a reboot is highly dependent on ambient temperature and other environmental conditions at the time. For this reason, a reboot is not typically recommended as a first-line recovery method.
If absolutely necessary, the customer may manually set the chassis ambient temperature (e.g., set chassis ambient-temperature 25C) as an informal and temporary workaround. However, this should only be considered until a second power feed is added to the PEMs.
