Connection looked like this:

[EX4100] ge-0/1/0 ----- [RuggedCom]

Symptoms

- Customer tried a variety of SFPs all ones that are compatible with juniper, different cables and types of RuggedCom switches and they all have the same layer 1 issue.

- We attempted modifying speed, duplex and auto-negotiation on both ends with no success.

- We noticed the port was up and lights showing up on the EX4100 switch, but on the RuggedCom the port was down with no lights.

Solution

The vendor went on customer's site and a firmware update on RuggedCom fixed the issue.
