Description

On SRX and vSRX platforms, FPC0 may restart repeatedly at approximately 5-minute intervals and generate a PFE core under specific conditions involving unified policy and DNS configuration.

Symptoms

You may observe one or more of the following:

  • FPC0 restarts every 5 minutes
  • A PFE core is generated

Solution

This issue can occur when traffic is sent using the interface IP (for example, with dig or host commands), or when the policy is unable to identify the correct DNS profile ID.

Workaround

Avoid using the interface IP when sending dig or host commands.

Fix

This issue is fixed in the following Junos releases:

  • 24.2R1-S2
  • 24.2R2
  • 25.1R1

Upgrading to one of the fixed releases is the recommended long-term solution.
