This article explains an issue where the DNS resolution fails on SRX if the connectivity of DNS server is configured through management routing instance

Symptoms

If the name server is configured under mgmt_junos routing instance, the DNS resolution on SRX will not be successful.

Example:
set system name-server <DNS IP> routing-instance mgmt_junos

Solution

This feature is not supported on SRX platform. Name-server configuration should be part of default (inet.0) routing instance. As of now this is only supported for MX, QFX and PTX platforms.
