Description

The log messages fpc0 SGE(0/2): link 1 sge TX BGAP CRC error! can be seen in the log file. The Gigabit Ethernet interface can also have loss of traffic. What does this log message mean and what are possible solutions to the problem.

Symptoms

A Gigabit Ethernet interface could be dropping packets and the following messages are seen in the log files.

Solution

TX BGAP CRC Error can be seen once the FPGA on the PIC receives the data from the FPC pic-slot and it performs a CRC check before forwarding on to the MAC which was failing.

BGAP (band gap) voltage references are the key circuit blocks for most of the implemented analog to digital conversion concepts.

Workaround for such issue is to reseat the PIC ( if not ok then reseat the FPC) and monitor a while to see if this will appear again in order to decide if RMA needed.
