Description

This article describes a scenario where a WAN Edge device may lose connectivity after enabling configuration management through the Mist platform.

 

Symptoms

After enabling configuration management in Mist, the WAN Edge device becomes unreachable or disconnects from the Mist cloud.

Solution

When configuration management is enabled, Mist pushes a configuration to the device.
If the device does not already have the necessary baseline settings (or an assigned template), the applied configuration may overwrite existing settings required for connectivity, resulting in loss of communication with Mist.
 
 

Before enabling configuration management, ensure that the WAN Edge device is properly prepared.

This includes either attaching a valid configuration template in Mist or verifying that the device has essential connectivity parameters configured, such as a working interface with internet access, correctly configured DNS settings, and appropriate routing (default route or equivalent).

 If these prerequisites are not in place, the default configuration pushed by Mist may remove or override critical settings, leading to loss of connectivity.

Ensuring these configurations are in place beforehand helps maintain stable communication with the Mist platform.
