Description

This article explains a known issue on SRX5800 platforms running Junos OS 21.4R3-S6 where an SPC3 card may crash and generate a core dump.

Symptoms

You may observe one or more of the following:

 

  • An SPC3 core dump is generated
  • The affected FPC/PIC restarts
  • show system core-dumps no-forwarding displays a flowd_spc3 core file
  • show chassis fpc detail no-forwarding may show that the affected card or slot has a more recent start time after the crash

 

 

Solution

On SRX5800 devices running 21.4R3-S6, specific UDP traffic can trigger an SPC3 crash due to incorrect packet handling. Upgrading to a fixed Junos release resolves the issue.
 

This issue is fixed in the following Junos OS releases:

  • 21.4R3-S8
  • 21.4R3-S9
  • 22.2R3-S5
  • 22.2R3-S7
  • 22.3R3-S4
  • 22.4R3-S3
  • 22.4R3-S4
  • 23.2R2-S4

Recommended action

Upgrade the device or cluster to any one of the fixed releases listed above.
