Description

This article provides guidance on how to verify whether traffic steering was functioning during a specific time period in a Mist-managed WAN Edge deployment.

Symptoms

Administrators want to confirm whether traffic steering policies were actively applied at a particular point in time but are unable to find this information in the Mist UI.

Solution

Currently, there is no dedicated UI feature in Mist that allows direct verification of historical traffic steering behavior for a specific timeframe.

To verify whether traffic steering was working during a specific time, review the session logs captured on an external syslog server.
If syslog logging is enabled for the SRX device, these logs provide detailed records of session creation, including timestamps, selected interfaces, and applied policies.

By filtering the logs for the relevant timeframe, you can analyse how traffic was routed and determine whether the expected traffic steering decisions were applied.

This method serves as the primary approach for historical validation since such visibility is not available directly through the Mist UI.
