This KB provides an example to determine hardware compatibility in case of hardware upgrade/swap
Customer might want to use the existing hardware components when upgrading the router chassis.
For eg, moving from MX480 to MX960.
Below are the steps one can check to determine the hardware compatibility.
1) Check for the current JUNOS version on the existing hardware and the target version on the new hardware.
2) Check whether the hardware that you want to reuse, is supported on the target version on the new hardware.
3) Check for compatibility between the SCB and FPC/MIC on the target/new hardware.
Here is an example of hardware swap from MX480 to MX960.
1) Existing device.
Chassis ABCD123 MX480
MIC 1 CAHH9422 3D 20x 1GE(LAN)-E,SFP
** MIC 1 will be moved to -------> MX960
--> JTAC observations
3D 20x 1GE(LAN)-E,SFP is MIC-3D-20GE-SFP-E. are the same and this MIC can be moved and used in MX960.

For the below parts to be moved from MX480 to MX960, I see that MX960 has SCBE2. You will need to configure enhanced-ip for the network services on the MX960 in order to use the below components from MX480 to MX960
# set chassis network-services enhanced-ip
