Description

Can we build the new Space boxes in 24.1, and then have them in a fabric and SD installed, before restoring the 23.1 Special backup?

Symptoms

A new Space 24.1R1 server was successfully deployed with Security Director 24.1R1, but the option to restore the special backup taken from Space 23.1R1 is not available.

Solution

Question: Is it feasible to construct the new Space boxes using version 24.1 and subsequently integrate them into a fabric with the Security Director application pre-installed, prior to the restoration of the 23.1 special backup?

Answer: No, this procedure is not possible. The Special backup created from Space version 23.1R1 requires its restoration to occur during the initial configuration of the primary Space node at the Command Line Interface (CLI) level where the system prompts you with the following question:

Do you want to restore the Space backup? [Y/N]:

Type Y to restore the backed-up data if you are upgrading Junos Space Platform.

A warning message is displayed, instructing you to wait until the backup data has been fully restored and all required Junos Space services have started on the node before attempting to access the Web UI.

Note: If you type N (No) in response to this question, you are indicating that you are configuring the first node of a fresh Junos Space Platform 24.1R1 (or later) installation rather than upgrading an existing Junos Space Platform deployment.

A message confirming that you have selected a fresh installation of Junos Space Platform is then displayed, and you are prompted to confirm whether you want to continue.

If you deploy the system as a fresh installation when your intention was to perform an upgrade, you must redeploy the server and repeat the installation process.
