Syslog message ZTCHIP_MQSS_CMERROR_WO_INT_REG_PKT_ERR

Symptoms

Chassis Manager error "ZTCHIP_MQSS_CMERROR_WO_INT_REG_PKT_ERR" is reported when MQSS block in ZTCHIP encounters WO interrupt handler for packet error. Here are snippets of the logs seen during the issue period for reference:

 Indications:

  • Usually, this error is a chain reaction to an original/underlying issue, so always check the preceding logs
  • Ideally, this error will not cause any traffic impact or permanent PFE forwarding impact if not persistently seen as it is internally corrected
  • A log will be registered to notify the condition 

Solution

This is a transient issue and depending on the frequency of the error occurrence could be impacting as the error could lead to a wedge condition blackholing traffic.
The "MQSS(*): WO: Packet Error - Error Packets 255" error is logged when a packet error is detected within the chip which compromises the integrity of the said packet. The packet error may be due to, but not limited to checksum error. This is a non-fatal error and it will cause said packet to be dropped.
If the packet errors are observed more than 255 times within 3 seconds, an error "ZTCHIP_MQSS_CMERROR_WO_INT_REG_PKT_ERR" will be logged. If seen more frequently/consistently it could also lead to a Wedge condition leading to a traffic black hole. 


Perform these steps to determine the cause and resolve the problem (if any). Continue through each step until the problem is resolved.

  • Collect the show command output

Capture the output to a file (in case you have to open a technical support case). To do this, configure each SSH client/terminal emulator to log your session.

Tip: When looking at an event in the logs, it is important to focus on the first error message in a collection of syslog messages. The first error message is usually the cause of all the follow-on error messages. The follow-on collateral damage error messages can be ignored.
