Description

This article answers the customers basic question about upgrading the Junos OS from MIST Cloud and weather it is best to upgrade from MIST Cloud or directly from SRX/CLI.

Solution

  • Direct Method to Upgrade SRX if Connected with MIST Cloud:
    • The direct methods are either through the SRX CLI or JWEB.

  • Methods to Upgrade Junos OS from MIST Cloud vs. SRX CLI/JWEB:
    • Simultaneous Reboot Method: This method installs the Junos version on both nodes simultaneously and then reboots both nodes at the same time. When using MIST Cloud, the platform will push the new version to both nodes and manage the reboot process. This method can also be done manually via the CLI.
    • Minimal Downtime Method: This method is not supported by the MIST portal and requires manual intervention via CLI. It aims to minimize downtime during the upgrade process. For more details, refer to the SRX Minimal Downtime Upgrade Guide.
    • ISSU Upgrade: This method is also not supported by the MIST portal and requires manual intervention. It allows for an in-service software upgrade, minimizing disruption. For more information, check the ISSU Upgrade Guide.

  • Obtaining Firmware Version 22.2R3-S4.11:
    • If upgrading via MIST, the portal will automatically push the Junos version and handle the process. No manual intervention is required. For CLI upgrades, download the Junos version from the Juniper Download Portal

  • Risks of Errors When Upgrading from MIST Portal:
    • There are generally no risks of errors when using MIST. However, any issues that arise during the installation will be visible in the insights section of the MIST portal.
