Description

The article provides steps to recover the device when device boots up in Amnesiac mode and the user is unable to run any commands or configure the device

 

Symptoms

1. The device will boot up in Amnesiac state.

 

2. show commands not working.

 

user> sho

    ^

unknown command.

 

3. Unable to get into shell mode.

 

 

user> start sh

       ^

syntax error, expecting <command>.

 

4. Only few commands available under "request" hierarchy and there is no way we can restart the system from the CLI

 

user> request ?

Solution

We can try below steps to resolve the issue.

 

  1. Try to power drain the device and check if device boots up in normal mode.
  2. Try to login to device with username "root" and press enter without any password. Check if device is loaded with factory default settings.
  3. It could be possible that the image or the device is corrupted. We might try to do a format install on the device using a USB.
  4. If none of the steps help, then RMA the device
