Solution

Steps to recover password for SRX1500, SRX4100, SRX4200, SRX4600:
  1. Power cycle the unit.
  2. Should see the unit in the “Juniper Linux” boot up option (as default) like the below snap shot.

  1. After about 60 seconds, carefully watch the screen monitor for the “Autoboot in 2 seconds … (press Ctrl-C to interrupt)” message, then you must type in “Ctrl-C” keys immediately within 2 seconds time window. If missed, then would have to  start steps 1 – 3 all over again.

  1. The below “Main Menu” will pop up if interrupted on time.

  1. Select option 5 for more “[M]ore options” to get to the next below menu.

  1. Select option 2 to boot up in “Recovery mode –[C]LI”

  1. If you see the blow message instead of “root>” prompt, then need to power cycle unit again and repeat steps 2 – 6 until you get the “root>” prompt like in below step 8.

  1. If saw the “root>” prompt, then follow the below steps:

  1. root> configure
  2. root# set system root-authentication plain-text-password
