Description

Upon entering the command  show interfaces statistics , the following error messages are seen in the system's messages file:

CSB-M20-1-re0 fpc1 ifd 153; does not exist
CSB-M20-1-re0 ssb ifd 153; does not exist
CSB-M20-1-re0 /kernel: if_pfe: Error 8 (No IFD) on IF command 53 (IFD bchip stats)

This article clarifies that these error messages are non-service affecting and can be resolved with an FPC reboot.

Symptoms

The system's messages file is saturated by the following error messages:

CSB-M20-1-re0 fpc1 ifd 153; does not exist
CSB-M20-1-re0 ssb ifd 153; does not exist
CSB-M20-1-re0 /kernel: if_pfe: Error 8 (No IFD) on IF command 53 (IFD bchip stats)

Solution

The error messages reveal that there is a discrepancy between the kernel and the PFE with regard to the physical interfaces (IFDs) that are believed to be active. In this specific case, the IFD that is being referenced is located on a Physical Interface Card (PIC) that was taken offline.

The error messages are triggered when the command  show interfaces statistics is issued.

The root cause of these messages is currently unknown.

These messages are non-service-affecting, and can be stopped by rebooting the FPC.
