Does both end of BFD peer need to have the same Transmit and Receive Interval and contribute to BFD session flaps ?

Symptoms

BFD session flap observed and both ends of the BFD session has different Transmit and Receive Interval configured.

Solution

The BFD timers need not match on both ends. BFD FAQ


When the two ends of a BFD session have different intervals for transmitting and receiving packets, negotiation is performed between the two ends of the BFD session. The longer interval is used.


Both end times are maintained throughout the session and can be visible by executing "show bfd session extensive"
