Description

This article provides more information about the BGP Monitoring Protocol (BMP) causing high RPD CPU under certain conditions and lists the Junos OS releases in which the issue is resolved.

Solution

In rare situations, BGP Monitoring Protocol (BMP) might fall into a loop while processing rib-in RM update messages with none of the messages being sent out. This can result in BMP hogging CPU until the BMP station state is bounced.

However, since the BMP task has low priority, it will yield CPU if there are other tasks coming in. BMP will only hog CPU when the system is idle and will not block other important tasks.

As per PR1796530, this has been fixed in Junos EVO 22.4R3-S2-EVO, evo:23.4R2-EVO, evo:24.2R1-EVO, evo:24.3R1-EVO, Junos OS 22.4R3-S2,  junos:23.4R2, and junos:24.2R1.

Note: Contact Support immediately when you observe CPU hog so that the issue can be investigated further.
