Description

On PTX10K EVO platforms, the IRB (Integrated Routing and Bridging) interface does not populate its ARP cache when only MAC-only remote records are available. The IRB interface does not issue ARP requests in the VLAN, even though remote MAC addresses are correctly signaled and can receive traffic from other hosts in the network.

Symptoms

IRB Interface ARP Cache Not Populated on PTX10K EVO with Remote MAC-Only Records

  • The MAC-VRF forwarding table shows the correct MAC address entry for the remote host.

  • The EVPN route table shows the correct MAC/IP entry for the remote host.

  • The ARP cache for the IRB interface remains empty.

  • The remote host (e.g., Ubuntu server) can learn the MAC address of the IRB interface correctly.

Solution

The "proxy-macip-advertisement" knob is not supported with PTX10K EVO platforms. In traditional Junos, this knob allows the IRB interface to populate its ARP cache based on remote MAC/IP advertisements.
