This article explains about the feature enhancement of virtual-switch instance on hierarchical level of QFX.
MAC-VRF:1. MAC-VRF is a type of virtual-switch routing instance in Juniper so you can use mac-vrf if the virtual-switch command is not available
The service-type configuration statement at the [edit routing-instances name] hierarchy level.
We support VLAN-based, VLAN-aware, and VLAN-bundle service types.
The forwarding-instance configuration statement at the [edit routing-instances name] hierarchy level. With this optional configuration statement, you can map multiple routing instances to a single forwarding instance. If you don’t include this configuration statement, the default forwarding instance is used.
2. MAC-VRF—(Various MX, QFX, ACX, PTX, and QFX platforms. For details on supported platforms and Junos version support, see Feature Explorer. Use this routing instance type to configure multiple customer-specific EVPN instances (EVIs) of type mac-vrf each of which can support a different EVPN service type. This configuration results in customer-specific virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) tables with MAC addresses on each Juniper Networks device that serves as a virtual tunnel endpoint (VTEP) in the EVPN-VXLAN network. This type of routing instance is for EVPN unicast routes only.
Use MAC-VRF routing instances in Ethernet VPN (EVPN) environments to create MAC-based virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) instances. Example:Check the available cli completion in QFX5120 , QFX5120-32C & EX4400 platform MAC vrf option is available , not virtual switch option.Below is the sample o/p from one of the devices further check the feature explore to see the supported platforms for mac-vrf/virtual switch option
