Description

This KB provides a list of relevant commands for different EX/QFX activities such:

 

  • Upgrades
  • Installations
  • Power Outage Activities
  • General Heath Check

The commands listed help checking most hardware and software components. Network Teams should include other commands depending on the configuration and protocols enable on the design.

 

Note: some platforms may have hardware components which require specific commands. 

Solution

    It is suggested to run and collect the following outputs before and after the activity so results can be compared:

     

    show version (check OS version)
show configuration | display set | no-more (displays configuration)
show chassis routing-engine (check RE status)
show chassis alarms (check hardware alarms)
show systems alarms (check system alarms)
show interfaces terse (check interfaces UP DOWN status)
show interfaces extensive | match "Carrier|Framing" |no-more (check framing errors)
show arp no-resolve (check ARPs)
show ethernet-switching table count (check amount of MACs per VLAN)
show system process summary (check main processes)
show system processes extensive (check IDLE % and if any process is high)
    show chassis hardware (check hardware components)
show chassis environment (check FANs and PSUs)
show chassis fpc pic-status (check status of PIC and FPCs)
show chassis pic fpc-slot "slot-id" pic-slot "slot-id" (check SFPs) 
show system core-dumps (check any crashes)
show route (check main routes)
show system storage (check storage for different folders)
show log messages | last 400

    If switch is part of Virtual-chassis or VCF verify its status via:
    show virtual-chassis
show virtual-chassis status
show virtual-chassis protocol adjacency
show virtual-chassis vc-port all-members
show virtual-chassis protocol [adjacency | interface]
show virtual-chassis device-topology
