Description

Taking a remote backup fails with the error: "Prerequisites are not satisfied, please check. Error message: Remote server type not supported."

The /root/.ssh/known_hosts holds known hosts and if the Space Server tries to connect to a device with a different MAC address but the same IP address as a known host it will reject the connection

Symptoms

  • Remote database backup fails with the error message: Prerequisites are not satisfied, please check. Error message: Remote server type not supported when taking a remote backup.
  • When connecting via ssh to the remote server from the Junos Space server, you receive the following or similar error:
     @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
@ WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED! @
    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE IS DOING SOMETHING NASTY!
Someone could be eavesdropping on you right now (man-in-the-middle attack)!
It is also possible that a host key has just been changed.
The fingerprint for the RSA key sent by the remote host is
    [...].
    Please contact your system administrator.
Add correct host key in /root/.ssh/known_hosts to get rid of this message.
    Offending RSA key in /home/sward/.ssh/known_hosts:86
RSA host key for [...] has changed and you have requested strict checking.
    Host key verification failed.

Solution

  1. Take a VM snapshot and/or a local database backup. If possible, confirm that the /var/ directory has enough space using df -h /var/
  2. Run the following command to update the fingerprints of the remote server:
    ssh-keygen -R remote_server_IP
  3. Attempt the remote backup from GUI again.

Note: Only Linux servers are supported as remote backup servers with Junos Space. Windows based servers will fail with the same error.
