Description

When creating a snapshot on MX204, a warning message is received. Snapshot process gets completed. This problem may be seen when using Junos release 21.2 else 21.4 train.

Symptoms

While requesting the VMHOST snapshot on VM based RE models ( RE-S-1600x8 , RE-S-2x00x6) we will be observing Target LVM size is smaller than the source, though the snapshot is getting created without any issues but the warning continues to be occured while running "request vmhost snapshot partitioncommand.

Post the above command execution, even for "request vmhost snapshot" the same warning will occur and it will not create the snapshot.

In short, the snapshot will be failed from getting executed fully, due to the LVM warning. snapshot is a must and it needs to be updated whenever we try to upgrade to any newer software versions, as it is used for rollback in case of any disk related issues as a recovery point.

Solution

Follow the below 2 steps to get rid of the reported warning message.

Consider if the issue is seen with primary disk SDA,

  1. Boot from backup disk and run the request vmhost snapshot Partition command, we will not see the LVM warning message.
  2. Now boot back from primary disk, the warning will be disappeared and wont be seen again anymore.
