Description

The router was unreachable since the cards, including the one from where the ssh connection was made, were down due to temperature issues as the lower air filter was damaged

Symptoms

The routers' temperature increases, but no fan issues were detected or alarms raised (except the ones for the FPCs overtemperature) Other equipment on the room were not experiencing any temperature issues

It was confirmed the lower fan filter was damaged and did not allow a proper airflow inside the chassis. however there is no alarm for the filter as there is no i2c polling from this component, for that same reason there is no serial number shown under the show chassis hardware output.

For this case, the filter was quite damaged and got destroyed when removing it, so we could not confirmed any dust or debris or any other specific reason of the failure.

Solution

The failed filter had to be replaced

It is recommended to replace the filter elements every 6 months.
