Description

While committing the configuration on device, multiple mustd core files got created and observing the below error log :

User@host# commit

error: Child /usr/sbin/mustd dumped core (0x8b)

error: Failed to open /var/run/db/enable-process.data+ file

error: commit failed: daemon file propagation failed

Symptoms

The issue could be observed when committing configuration on a Junos/EVO platform.

Solution

  • On all Junos and Junos Evolved platforms configured with persist-group-inheritance, which is enabled by default from 19.4R3 onwards, might lead to mustd process crash in highly scaled configuration. This could lead to commit failure.
  • The issue was observed with the configuration database size taking more than 700MB. Use the below command to check the configuration database size.
user@host> show system configuration database usage
Maximum size of the database: 665.99 MB
Current database size on disk: 1.50 MB
Actual database usage: 1.48 MB
Available database space: 664.51 MB.

    • As a workaround, please disable persist groups inheritance using the below command :
    set system commit no-persist-groups-inheritance

For permanent resolution, please upgrade the switch to one of the fixed releases.
