Description

The intention of the article is to provide resolution when customer is unable to channelise  ports on  ptx10001-36mr EVO boxes due to port speed configuration alarms.

Symptoms

Below alarms can be seen due to incorrect speed or incorrect pic profile  configuration .

In the below output, we can see that 4x10G optic is added under "port-0/1/3". Also, there is an error reported for port 7. However, no optic added to port 7 or port 6.

Solution



The PTX10001-36MR has 12 quad small-form factor pluggable (QSFP28) sockets that are configured as 100GbE ports by default.

The QSFP28 ports support 10-Gbps, 25-Gbps, 40-Gbps, and 100-Gbps speeds. 100-Gbps is supported on all QSFP28 ports. 10-Gbps, 25-Gbps, and 40-Gbps speeds are not supported on all QSFP28 ports.

When these supported QSFP28 ports are configuring for 10-Gbps, 25-Gbps, or 40-Gbps speeds, there are corresponding QSFP28 ports that must be configured as unused.

Alarm "Optics does not support configured speed" due to incorrect speed setting on port-0/1/3. As you see in the above output, 4x10G optic is added under "port-0/1/3" and there isnt any speed configuration added under port-0/1/3. Hence the port inherits default speed of 100G and reports alarms that "Optics does not support configured speed".

There is another error reported for "port-0/1/7" and causing alarm "Invalid Port Speed Configuration". Because, "port-0/1/3" inherits default speed of 100G if none configured and "port-0/1/6" is configured with speed 40G

In the below scenario, customer is not making use of "port-0/1/7" or "port-0/1/6", hence we are removing speed configuration from "port-0/1/6" to clear "Invalid Port Speed Configuration" alarms.

Alternatively , we can configure the corresponding pic and port to be unused under chassis configuration. In case if customer has configured "port-0/1/6" speed to be used as 10G/25G/40G then the corresponding port which is 7 should be configured as unused under the interface hierarchy.
