mkdir: cannot create directory '/var/xxx': File exists

Symptoms

On Junos products, you may observe syslog message below while the device boots up. 
mkdir: cannot create directory '/var/xxx': File exists
This log could be seen when there is a file or it has a symbolic link already. Check the directory and verify if there is a file already.

Solution

In general, the impact of this log is minimal; however, it is advisable to verify the necessity of that file. And the cause and the appropriate measures to address it vary depending on the file or product.
