Description

There is a possibility of encountering reachability issues for specific networks, as the hosts appear to be unreachable both from the virtual IP and the local physical IP address.

Symptoms

Tried to ping hosts within the impacted Integrated Routing and Bridging (IRB) interfaces, and they were unreachable. There was no mastership fluctuation observed between the VRRP routers; it remained stable. Subsequently, we observed that the VRRP state for the reported networks was marked as "backup," while for the remaining functional IRB interfaces, it was designated as "master."

Solution

  • Please verify the VRRP configuration and the health status of the setup.
  • Next, alternate the mastership between the VRRP routers by adjusting the VRRP Priority. Perform the same procedure for all affected Integrated Routing and Bridging (IRB) interfaces. Subsequently, assess the reachability status.
  • If the problem persists, consider deactivating and activating VRRP on the master core-switch during a scheduled maintenance window. This action will prompt the backup core-switch to assume mastership from the primary core-switch. Afterward, reevaluate the reachability status.

Execute the following commands:

user# deactivate protocols vrrp

user# activate protocols vrrp

If the issue persists, kindly reach out to JTAC for further assistance.
