Description

When trying to execute event-policy receiving an error - SYSLOG-4-EVENTD_POLICY_LIMIT_EXCEEDED: Unable to execute policy 'xyz' because current number of policies (15) exceeds system limit (15)

Symptoms

SYSLOG-4-EVENTD_POLICY_LIMIT_EXCEEDED: Unable to execute policy 'xyz' because current number of policies (15) exceeds system limit (15)

Solution

The policy is not being executed due to too many CLI processes running on the system.

You can verify how many CLI processes you have running via - show system processes extensive | grep cli

92427 root    52  0 80884K 62504K fifoow 1  0:00  0.00% cli

92429 root    47  0 80884K 62504K fifoow 1  0:00  0.00% cli

 9232 root    23  0 80884K 62116K fifoow 1  0:00  0.00% cli

12840 root    45  0 80884K 62484K fifoow 1  0:00  0.00% cli

52455 root    37  0 80884K 62492K fifoow 1  0:00  0.00% cli

 824 root    20  0 80884K 62612K select 1  0:00  0.00% cli

72338 root    35  0 80884K 62492K fifoow 1  0:00  0.00% cli

32418 root    36  0 80884K 62492K fifoow 1  0:00  0.00% cli

To clear these stale CLI processes we can clear them from shell mode -

>start shell user root

%kill -9 <process id>
