Reconnaissance attacks are conducted to identify vulnerabilities and points of access to be used in future attacks.'  They consist of an attacker scanning the network for open ports and returning services that are running on those ports to identify potential vulnerabilities for later exploitation.' ' ' Theoretically speaking, reconnaissance attacks do not create damage to your network.'  But it is important to identify these threats, so that the IDP Administrator can prepare for possible future attacks.'  The ideal methodology is to filter out these " noises " that these scans can cause to the network.
