Description

This KB explains how to troubleshoot the following error on EX8216 switch : SIB-x-Temp-Sensor-Fail

where, x is the SIB slot number

Symptoms

Facing the below logs on switch :

%DAEMON-4: Alarm set: CB color=YELLOW, class=CHASSIS, reason=SIB 4 Temp Sensor Fail

%DAEMON-4: Minor alarm set, SIB 4 Temp Sensor Fail

Solution

  • When we check the messages file in /var/logs, we observe the below logs once the alarm gets set on switch :

%DAEMON-4: Alarm set: CB color=YELLOW, class=CHASSIS, reason=SIB 4 Temp Sensor Fail

%DAEMON-4: Minor alarm set, SIB 4 Temp Sensor Fail

  • We can check for the alarm logs using the command "show chassis alarms".
  • In some scenarios, the alarms gets auto-corrected after a few seconds. Once the alarm will get clear, we will not see any active alarm on switch and below logs will be generated in messages file :

%DAEMON-4: Alarm cleared: CB color=YELLOW, class=CHASSIS, reason=SIB 4 Temp Sensor Fail

%DAEMON-4: Minor alarm cleared, SIB 4 Temp Sensor Fail
  • In the chassisd logs, we see the below logs from issue state :

yellow alarm set, device SIB 4, reason SIB 4 Temp Sensor Fail

yellow alarm clear, device SIB 4, reason SIB 4 Temp Sensor Fail

  • In case the alarms are not auto-corrected, we could try to reseat the concerned SIB module. Please make sure that the SIB module is all clean when we re-insert the module.
  • If we still see the alarm logs, try to insert a spare SIB module, and check if we still see the error to isolate the issue.
  • Further, please open JTAC case to process the RMA for the faulty module/chassis.
