Description
The following article describes how to perform a format install for a Juniper Networks EX4400 Series Switches.
Symptoms
You want to format an EX4400 switch that has been corrupted or needs a clean installation from zero.
Solution
From the
Juniper Downloads
page, select the appropriate OS (Junos or Junos SR, and navigate to the section "Install Media as shown below and select the USB Install:
Decompress the file as it is a .img.gz. Once you have the .img file, burn it to a USB flash drive using DD or any other ISO burner image.
You will need console access to perform the following steps:
Once the USB has been made bootable, disconnect the device from power and re-connect it, or if you have console access the command "request system reboot hypervisor".
In the following screen, select "Boot Manager":
Once there, select the USB in question using up and down keys and press enter to select:
The device will be formatted and will come up in amnesiac mode, with username root and no password.
