Description

Installing a PSU which is not supported by the EX4400 switch model results in the generation of a chassis alarm 'PEM is not supported'. Additionally, the switch does not report the presence of the installed unsupported PSU in 'show chassis hardware' while showing PSU status OK for the unit ('show chassis environment').

Installing a PSU into an EX4400 model which is not supported by the platform results in the switch not reading the PEM info properly. Check the label of the Power supply that is not shown and verify the model/part-number. Replace the unsupported PSU with a supported one for the EX4400 model.

Symptoms

EX4400 model generates chassis alarm that PEM is not supported:

user@EX4400> show chassis alarms

2 alarms currently active
Alarm time Class Description

0000-00-00 00:00:00 UTC Major FPC 1 PEM 1 is not supported

The switch does not report the presence of the installed PSU:

user@EX4400> show chassis hardware | match "Power Supply"

Power Supply 1 <<<<<<

Solution

Installing a PSU into an EX4400 model which is not supported by the platform results in the switch not reading the PEM info properly.

Check the label of the Power supply that is not shown and verify the model/part-number.

There are multiple Power supplies for EX4400: JPSU-1600-C-AC-AFO (640-107109) and JPSU-1050-C-AC-AFO (640-107108).

JPSU-1600-C-AC-AFO is supported on these platform: EX4400-48P, EX4400-48MP, EX4400-24P, EX4400-24MP
JPSU-1050-C-AC-AFO is supported only on these platforms: EX4400-24P, EX4400-24MP
