Description

Documentation in Juniper Networks EX4400 System Overview states that the ports from PIC 2 could be configured for 1G or 25G speed with the command and that the default speed is 10G. However in some scenarios the interfaces terse output might not show the interfaces from PIC 2, even if the SFPs have been properly recognized by hardware.

This article is intended to explain how to properly configure the speed of ports from PIC 2 on Juniper Networks EX4400 platform to make them appear under output of "> show interfaces terse" command.

Symptoms

Switch recognizes the uplink module and the transceiver as reflected in the chassis hardware output.

user@switch> show chassis hardware

No ports from PIC 2 are listed in interfaces terse.

user@switch> show interfaces terse

Solution

In scenarios where 10G speed is needed to be configured on all 4 ports from PIC 2, you can manually configure the same with the command below: 
user@switch# set chassis fpc 0 pic-slot 2 port 0 speed 10g
These ports can be configured with desired speed only in groups of 4 ports, which means that the command used can only be performed with port 0 for PIC 2 as we have to use the first port of the total group. Hence, you cannot configure any of these ports using the mentioned command with port number other than 0.
