The EX4100 / EX4100-F and EX4400 switches have default configured VCP, as result, users may find that the physical interface is not listed in the show interface command output.
Example:
root@switch> show interfaces ge-0/1/0
error: device ge-0/1/0 not found
The EX4100 / EX4100-F / EX4400 switches have dedicated Virtual Chassis ports (VCPs) that you can use to interconnect member switches of a Virtual Chassis. If you operate the interconnected switches as a single device, you must use all the Virtual Chassis ports as Virtual Chassis ports or use all of them as network ports.
As per the above statement, we can only use PIC 1 as VCP all the ports or as “network ports” all the ports, but not combine.
Note: you cannot just delete the VCP as we normally do on other EX/QFX platforms.
The EX4100 / EX4100-F / EX4400 switches to convert VCP to network ports, use the following command:
root@switch> request virtual-chassis mode network-port
Mode set to 'Virtual Chasiss with network-port-mode enabled'. (Reboot required)
After entering the above command, the device needs to be rebooted to take effect, use the command:
root@switch> request system reboot
Once the reboot is completed and the unit is fully operational, the ports of PIC 1 are not VCP anymore, they are now “network ports”.
Now the 4 ports of PIC 1 are working as network ports, you can use freely use them on the network.
Note: if you need to revert back the network ports to VCP again on The EX4100 / EX4100-F / EX4400 switches, use the following command to covert the ports to VCP:
root@switch> request virtual-chassis mode network-port disable
fpc0:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mode set to 'Virtual Chassis with similar devices'. (Reboot required)
