The European Union (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive 2011/65/EU or "RoHS2 Directive" prohibits producers and distributors from placing electronics products on the market in the EU (and in countries that have officially adopted the RoHS2 Directive) if those products contain certain hazardous substances.

The RoHS2 Directive includes certain time limited exemptions (including lead exemptions) that, up to now, have been relied on by many network equipment products, including many Juniper products and those of its competitors. These exemptions are set to expire on July 21st 2016.

Juniper’s general direction is to make its product portfolio globally available. In other words most of its products purchasable after July 21, 2016, either will comply with RoHS2 requirements as then operative (that is, without benefit of lapsed exemptions) or will have reached end-of-life status globally at the end of a last time buy opportunity as customarily afforded under Juniper’s standard EOL Policy.

There is however a limited third category of products: "Restricted Availability" product, which Juniper expects to keep on selling after July 21, 2016, in regions outside of the EU and of the other countries following the RoHS2 Directive. Because products in this limited category will not comply with RoHS2 requirements operative after July 21, 2016, none of them may be shipped into the EU or any of the other countries following the RoHS2 Directive, after July 21st 2016, except under a limited "spare parts" exception stated in the Directive (Art. 4(4)(f)).

This Restricted Availability Product Notification contains a list of those "Restricted Availability" products and their Last Order Date and Last Customer Receipt Date for ship to or end use locations in the EU or other countries following the RoHS2 Directive. After these dates, these products will remain available for shipping and end use ONLY in countries that have not adopted the RoHS2 Directive.

Support for Restricted Availability products will continue pursuant to our standard policies for countries in the EU, for countries that have adopted the RoHS2 Directive, and for countries that have not adopted the RoHS2 Directive.
