Description

Rotating the Logs Written to an XML File on the NSM Server

Symptoms

Solution

note The current release of NSM does not have a configuration option to limit the size of the XML file; therefore, it is occasionally necessary to rotate the log file off the NSM server. After moving the file from the NSM server, an error will appear when attempting to open the file using an XML editor if the file was not closed properly.

To rotate the logs written to an XML file on the NSM server, perform the following steps:

alt Connect to the NetScreen-Security Manager. For more information on this, go to Connecting to the NetScreen-Security Manager [juniper.net] .

alt Expand Server Manager , and click to select Servers .

alt Under GUI Server , click to select the server you wish to modify, and then click the Edit button.

alt From the Log Actions tab, under XML , in the File Path text box, modify the filename to something other than the current.

note For example, if the XML log file is named test.xml, change it to test1.xml. The log files are then written to test1.xml, thereby allowing the test.xml log file to be moved from the NSM server and opened with an XML editor.
