Description

Sometimes, users may observe the following PFE logs during an Aggregated Ethernet (AE) interface switchover on MX Series routers.

Oct 20 10:25:30.582 2021 mx-router-re0 : %PFE-6: member1-fpc1 jnh_update_ifd_standby_state IFD: 2038, Enable: False 
Oct 20 10:26:01.893 2021 mx-router-re0 : %PFE-6: member0-fpc1 jnh_update_ifd_standby_state IFD: 1994, Enable: True 

This article explains that the logs are only indicative of an AE interface switchover and that no action is required because the logs are expected. The logs, however, can be used to determine the timestamp for the switchover.

Symptoms

Users may see the following logs:

Oct 20 10:26:01.893 2021 mx-router-re0 : %PFE-6: member0-fpc1 jnh_update_ifd_standby_state IFD: 1994, Enable: True 

Solution

These logs are expected during an AE interface switchover.

When you use the following command to check redundancy, it is not clear when the AE interface switchover occurred.

user@mx-router-re0> show interfaces redundancy 
Interface  State            Last change  Primary      Secondary    Current status
ae1       On primary       19w5d 14:38  xe-1/0/0     xe-13/0/0    both up

To determine when the AE interface switchover occurred, you would need to check the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) log:

In the above log, " jnh_update_ifd_standby_state IFD: xxxx, Enable: True " means that the specified interface (IFD interface) switched over to be the primary AE interface.

" jnh_update_ifd_standby_state IFD: xxxx, Enable: False " means that the specified interface (IFD interface) switched over to be the secondary AE interface.
