When customers maintain node slicing on MX Series routers, they may need to reboot or shut down the Juniper Device Manager (JDM). This article seeks to address customer concerns over the effect that a shutdown or reboot of the JDM may have on the currently running Guest Network Function (GNF) VMs.
The Juniper Device Manager (JDM), which is a virtualized Linux container, enables provisioning and management of GNF VMs. A JDM performs the following:
Provisions GNF VMs
Creates, deletes, starts, and stops GNF VMs
Ensures GNF VM console connectivity
Monitors GNF VMs
Manages GNF VM Junos OS image repository
Manages GNF VM virtual disks
After the GNF VMs have been created and are running in a stable manner, they do not rely on the JDM's status, which means that reboot, shutdown, or upgrade of the JDM will not affect the running GNF VMs.
