This article explains the meaning of the syslog message "if_pfe: Error 1 (Unknown) on IF command 55 (Ether set boolean)" that is usually seen on QFX and EX Series devices. No action is required because these error messages do not have any service impact.

These logs originate from the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) and the underlying chipset. They are reported when the device is unable to read certain PHY parameters from the drivers associated with the optics during initialization. They are seen after an interface gets re-initialized.
This issue is mostly seen when non-Juniper SFPs are in use on these ports. However it might happen to Juniper or supported SFP/QSFP . Also those might be present after commiting non related changes to the interfaces reported with "boolean" log.
No action is required because these logs do not have any service impact. The messages can be ignored safely. However, if any impact is seen or the error messages persist, contact Support to investigate the problem further.
