This article describes the "silo overflow" log message that may be reported in SRX devices and indicates that these messages are related to the console connection. Checking and fixing any problems in the console connection should ideally clear the log message.

The following log messages are reported in the device:

Sep 28 23:45:56  srx-01 chassisd[1612]: %DAEMON-3-CHASSISD_RE_CONSOLE_FE_STORM: Console device encountering framing error storm on Routing Engine 0 (possibly a bad console cable)
Sep 28 23:45:56  srx-01 alarmd[1613]: %DAEMON-4: Alarm set: RE color=YELLOW, class=CHASSIS, reason=Excessive framing errors on console port
Sep 28 23:45:56  srx-01 craftd[1614]: %DAEMON-4:  Minor alarm set, Excessive framing errors on console port
Sep 28 00:32:09  srx-01 /kernel: %KERN-3: sio0: 1 more silo overflow (total 2)
Sep 28 00:32:09  srx-01 /kernel: %KERN-3: sio0: 1836 more tty-level buffer overflows (total 1836)
Sep 28 00:32:09  srx-01 /kernel: %KERN-3: sio0: 1 more excessive framing errors (total 2)

Note: The SIO0 log is related to the console connection.

If this log message is seen only once or twice, it is safe to ignore it. However, it is recommended that the log messages should be monitored.

If, however, the log is reported repeatedly, then the console cable and terminal server connections should be checked by changing ports, replacing cables, and so on. If the log messages persist even after checking and correcting the console connection, contact Support to troubleshoot the problem further.
