Description

With the introduction of CTPView 9.1R1 and later 9.1 releases, it is required that the server be reformatted (when installed on a a bare metal server) for the initial 9.1 release. The server must have Centos 7 installed by the user as detailed in the CTPView 9.1R2 Release Notes . In order to install 9.1Rx, it is required to boot the server from a DVD which contains a bootable version of Centos 7 build 1804 (as of 3/26/21).

This article explains how to setup the server to boot from the DVD drive to reformat the server using Centos 7 build 1804. After Centos 7 is installed, then CTPView 9.1Rx RPM can be installed.  This is also noted in the CTPView 9.1Rx Release Notes .

Note: A third party tool (such as WinISO) is needed to create a bootable version of a Centos 7 DVD.  The CTPView server cannot be used to create a bootable DVD. The ISO file to create the boot DVD can be sourced from this link: https://vault.centos.org/7.5.1804/isos/x86_64/CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1804.iso

Symptoms

Normally, the CTPView server will boot from the hard drive. If a bootable DVD is installed in the DVD drive, it will never be accessed during a reboot unless the boot order is changed in the BIOS menu.  See below for the steps to change the boot order and make the DVD drive first in the boot order list.

Solution

Note:  Use the serial console on the CTPView Server or directly connect a keyboard and monitor to the server to gain console access. 

Change boot order so the CTPView server boots from the DVD drive:

  1. Power cycle or reboot the CTPView server

  2. From the console window, press "F2" to enter BIOS when the screen below appears. F2 at the top of the screen will then change to "entering system setup"

  3. The main BIOS screen appears:

  4. Down arrow to the Boot Settings, then this screen will appear:

  5. After verifying the boot mode = BIOS, down arrow to boot sequence and press enter. The screen below will appear. Use the +, - and space keys to move the DVD drive to the top of the list and make sure it is enabled:

  6. Use the ESC key to back one screen.

  7. Up arrow to SATA settings. The following screen will appear. Make sure all ports are "auto":

  8. Press ESC twice. Then hit "save setting and exit" then enter to boot the server.  Make sure the Bootable Centos 7 DVD is installed.
