This article explains why users may see logs with the "Going disconnected; Routing engine chassis socket closed abruptly" message during the MX-VC global Routing Engine (RE) switchover or MX-SC RE switchover. It clarifies that these log messages are expected and no action is required because there is no known service impact.
The following logs can be observed when the process chassisd changes during RE switchover and when you log in to the new primary RE.
On the primary RE of member1 for MX-VC
member1-fpcX CMLC: Going disconnected; Routing engine chassis socket closed abruptly
On the primary RE of member0 for MX-VC
member0-fpcX CMLC: Going disconnected; Routing engine chassis socket closed abruptly
Or on the primary RE for MX-SC
fpcX CMLC: Going disconnected; Routing engine chassis socket closed abruptly
This is as per design and these logs are expected. Since there is no service impact during MX-VC global or MX-SC RE switchover, these logs can be safely ignored and no action needs to be taken.
