This article explains how to connect via console to the SRX by using Putty as the terminal client in a Windows environment.

The console port on a Juniper Networks device is an RS-232 serial interface that uses an RJ-45 connector to connect to a console management device. The default baud rate for the console port is 9600 baud; for more information see Console Port Connector Pinout Information .
 

1. Connect your PC to the console port of the SRX. Every SRX platform has a Hardware Guide where the location of the console port is documented. For example, the location of the console port for a SRX1500 can be found on Table 1 in its Hardware Guide .

2. On your PC, look for an available Communications Port (COM Port) from where you will be establishing the console connection. For Windows systems open Device Manager and locate Ports (COM & LPT) in the list. Check for the COM ports by expanding the list.

3. Download and open PuTTY on your PC.

4. In the PuTTY Configuration, select Serial as the connection type, and specify the COM Port to be used along with a Speed (Baud rate) of 9600. Finally click Open and you should be connected to the SRX via a console connection.
