Description

In the instances when vmhost based PTX platforms are unable to complete boot process, a user can try to boot the device from alternate SSD using the method described in this article.

Symptoms

After performing 'request vmhost reboot' (for any purpose like upgrade or scheduled maintenance), PTX device stays in boot loop.

Solution

  1. Power off the device.

  2. Interrupt boot sequence when the following menu appears:

Press Esc for boot options  

 Press "Esc"

  3. Select "Boot Manager" from following menu:

  4. Select "EFI HDD device 1 " from following options:

  5. Press Enter.

    The device will complete the boot process.

    The following prompt will appear once the boot process is complete: 

    FreeBSD/amd64 (Amnesiac) (ttyu0)
