This article provides details of the front panel physical ports to avoid oversubscription.
On the MX150, when the 1GE ports are in use for active traffic, the 10GE ports may not get the port speed throughput; the oversubscription may result in packet loss.
In order to avoid any packet loss and avoid oversubscription scenarios, make sure to use the ports according to the maximum expected usage and expected volume of traffic:
The MX150 has two internal 10GE ports; hence the total effective bidirectional throughput is 20G.
The 1GE and 10GE ports are mapped internally as follows:
Example: If the aggregate traffic volume in the receive or transmit direction for each of the ports: ge-0/0/0 through ge-0/0/5 is 300 Mbps (a total of 1.8 Gbps for 6 ports), the 10GE port xe-0/0/12 may be able to reach the remainder of the total capacity of 10 Gbps i.e. 8.2 Gbps.
