Description

In some of versions, FF02::2 route is displayed on the routing table even withoit any IPv6 configuration.

root@QFX5100_48S# run show route

inet.0: 1 destinations, 1 routes (1 active, 0 holddown, 0 hidden)
+ = Active Route, - = Last Active, * = Both

70.0.0.1/32 *[Local/0] 1d 04:51:10
                      Reject

inet6.0: 1 destinations, 1 routes (1 active, 0 holddown, 0 hidden)
+ = Active Route, - = Last Active, * = Both

ff02::2/128        *[INET6/0] 1d 04:51:15
                      MultiRecv

Solution

all-nodes multicast address:

FF02::1 - the link-local scope address to reach all nodes,

The above multicast addresses identify the group of all IPv6 nodes , within scope 1 (interface-local) or 2 (link-local).

all-routers multicast address:

FF02::2 - the link-local scope address to reach all routers,

The above multicast addresses identify the group of all IPv6 routers within scope 1 (interface-local), 2 (link-local), or 5 (site-local).

The display change is to avoid Router Solicitation (RS) of IPv6 response issues.

  • A router MUST join the all-routers multicast address on an advertising interface.
  • Routers respond to Router Solicitations sent to the all-routers address and verify the consistency of Router Advertisements sent by neighboring router.
