This article provides information on how to purge events and alarms from Network Director. Any activity on the network devices creates events on the device. A software component on the network device, called an entity, is responsible for running the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to log and monitor these events. When certain types of events are persistent, or when the condition causing the event crosses a threshold, SNMP sends a notification, also called a trap to Network Director. Network Director correlates traps, describing a condition, into an alarm.
There are times when you need to purge the events and alarms stored in the Junos Space Database. One such use case is when you see the following message on the Junos Space >> Network Management Platform >> Dashboard: "Tables exceed the size limit (>10GB)".
To configure purging of the events and the alarms from Network Director, please follow the steps mentioned below: 1. Please navigate to Network Director > System > Preferences : 2. Navigate to the Fault tab in the Preferences window. Here you can configure the Number of days to keep alarms under Global Settings > Additional Settings . The default retention period is 120 days. You can change it to anything between 7 to 1000 days. 3. Configure the Events/Alarm to specify the number of events per alarm to keep in the database. The default value is 20. 4. Click OK . This configures the purging time for the events and the alarms under Network Director.
